Lip-a-holics Anonymous: How to keep your lips nice and smooth!

Welcome to another edition of Lip-a-holics Anonymous! For this post, I wanted to share with you a few tips and tricks on how to keep your lips nice and smooth. One of my pet peeves is having dry, chapped lips. I, myself, always have dry and chapped lips since I am in an air-conditioned office everyday and the cold always leaves my lips dry.

I know I am not the only one out there who often experience dry and chapped lips. So, here are some of the things that I personally do and the products that I use to prevent my lips from getting dry or chapped.

1. Find a lip balm or lip butter that works for you and always keep it handy!

I have tried a bunch of lip balms and lip butters since I started using/collecting them when I was in high school! Back then, I was addicted to lip balms since I wasn’t allowed to wear lipsticks and lip glosses. I don’t collect them now as avidly as I did back then, but I always make sure that I keep one handy.

I use quite a few lip balms/butters nowadays from different brands but they all have the same function. Lip balms and lip butters are great for keeping your lips smooth. They may be applied on its own or they may be applied before you put on lipstick. There are a bunch of lip balms on the market nowadays which are tinted so it has the dual function of softening your lips and adding color to it!

My favorite lips balms/butters are:

Mox Botanicals Lip Butter – This one smells and tastes like coconut!

Chapstick – Who doesn’t love chapstick?! I think this is the ultimate go-to brand when it comes to lip balms! My favorite is the Cherry flavored one!

Carmex – This is my most used lip balm at the moment because I really find it moisturizing especially when I am in a cold environment (a.k.a the office). I also love that it has the consistency of a petroleum jelly! It smells and tastes like wax to me but not in an overpowering way. Haha.

Maybelline Baby Lips – I love the Maybelline Baby Lips lip balms because they have quite a tint to it. You can definitely forego lipstick with this because of its tinted quality. They are also very moisturizing and they smell really good as well!

2. Apply petroleum jelly to your lips every night before you sleep!

This has been part of my beauty routine since high school and is a tip that I got from my mom! I do this every night before I go to sleep and I always wake up with the softest lips! I don’t just apply petroleum jelly on my lips but I also apply them to the areas around my lips. Those areas tend to get dry as well so you need to keep them moisturized.

3. Use a lip scrub to exfoliate your lips!

There are a lot of lip scrubs available in the market but I am not an advocate of purchasing lip scrubs. I prefer to use sugar instead since you can only get it from your kitchen! There are also a lot of homemade recipes for lip scrubs that you can find on the net. They are very easy to make and would cost you almost nothing!

Aside from using sugar, you can also use your toothbrush (I do this a lot!) to exfoliate your lips. Just use your toothbrush to lightly brush your lips and this will help remove any dry skin on your lips.

Just a note though; you need not exfoliate your lips daily! It will only leave your lips irritated! I prefer to exfoliate my lips at least twice a week.

Hope you find my tips helpful!

I always have eos and baby lips lying around everywhere but I haven’t tried applying petroleum jelly every night! I’m definitely going to try that as it’s the area around my lips that dries out. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
