It’s almost the end of the first month of 2015 and this is just my first post of the year! 2015 started out pretty rough and hectic for me and it is only today that I am able to find the time to blog again. To kick-off my late start to blogging this year, I’ll be sharing my beauty favorites for 2014. My favorites include loads of makeup items and a handful of skincare and haircare bits!
I first did the Goddess Awards last year for my 2013 favorites. It was one of my most viewed blog posts and it was one that I truly enjoyed blogging about. When I came up with my list of favorites for 2014, it amazed me how much my favorites have changed from 2013. 2014 was such a great year for me beauty wise because I tried some awesome products and brands! Now, let me run you through my beauty superstars of 2014!
Ahh, foundations! Love ’em, couldn’t live without ’em! Having oily skin makes it really hard for me to find great, long-wearing foundations. In 2014, I tried loads but my two stand outs are MAC’s Studio Fix Powder Foundation and the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation. The MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation is such a great foundation! It has medium to full coverage and is quite long-lasting on oily skin. It can be used on its own or on top of a liquid foundation. You can tell how much I love it because there’s hardly any left on the pan! For liquid foundations, Revlon’s Colorstay Foundation really stood out for me. The formula is very blendable and buildable. It has great coverage and awesome oil-control!
I found my holy grail concealer in 2014 and it’s the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer! I do not have enough words to describe how great this concealer is! It conceals like a dream and is indeed very long wearing! I also really enjoyed using the Happy Skin Eye Need A Miracle Corrector which launched in 2014. This product is very affordable yet works really well for concealing dark spots, blemishes and scars. Its light, blendable formula makes it very easy to use under the eyes as well.
The brand Pixy recently launched in the Philippines and they have some really cool and affordable products! I particularly love their face powders because they are great for touch ups and they have awesome staying power!
Best Bronzer/Countouring Powder
Essence’s Matte Bronzing Powder is such a great bronzer/contouring powder because it’s matte. The color is perfect for adding glow to the face and is dark enough to use for contouring.
The Balm’s Cabana Boy is just LOVE! Enough said.
I’m a neutral eyeshadow kind of gal and I love wearing one-wash neutral eyeshadows! Too Cool For School’s Dino Platz Eyeshadow on Flat Iron in the color Bronze is one of those great neutral eyeshadows that looks amazing blended out all over the lids! It is very pigmented and very long lasting!
Best Eyeshadow Palette
The It’s Judy Time Palette which is a collaboration between BH Cosmetics and YouTube Beauty Vlogger It’s Judy Time is my favorite and most used eyeshadow palette in 2014! This palette contains 12 eyeshadows with a mixture of matte and shimmery finishes. The eyeshadows are nicely pigmented and are buttery smooth!
Another product which was promoted to holy grail status is the Happy Skin Eye Am Here To Stay 24 Hour Gel Eyeliner Pencil in the shade Chic Brown. This is hands down the best eyeliner that I have ever tried! I love it for its pigmentation and the fact that I can wear it for the entire day without moving or smudging!
If you are a loyal reader of my blog, you would know how much I love the Maybelline Colossal Volume Express Mascara! I have worn that mascara for years and never really had an inkling to try another mascara! I never thought I would love another mascara as much as I love the Maybelline one. Don’t get me wrong, I still love that mascara. But in 2014, I got sent a Memebox that contained The Cheek Room Curl & Volume Mascara and I fell in love with it! The formula is very black and thick which makes my lashes look really long and fluttery! It doesn’t clump and the brush is just the perfect size for the lower lashes as well!
Best Brow Pencil
The Face Shop’s Design My Eyebrow retractable brow pencil is a great brow product and a good one to carry on your makeup kit because it also comes with a spooly! I use it everyday and I got my sister hooked on this too!
Best Lip Balm
My foray into the brand Burt’s Bees started with the Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil. This lip balm smells and tastes amazing! I sometimes find myself re-applying it throughout the day because it just smells so good and feels so good on the lips!
Best Lip Color
If you have been a frequent reader of my blog in 2014, you probably know of my deep love for the Happy Skin Shut Up and Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippies! I have collected loads of these lip colors and I use them a lot! Trust me, these lip colors are so pigmented, very moisturizing and long lasting!
Best Makeup Brushes
Zoeva makeup brushes are seriously fantastic! They are so soft and they make my makeup look as if it has been applied professionally! More Zoeva brushes are definitely in my beauty wishlist for 2015!
Best Shower Products
I love taking showers and because of that, I am addicted to bath/shower products as well! The main staples in my bathroom include The Cream Factory Scrub-in-a-Tub Body Scrub and the Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner. The Cream Factory’s Scrub-in-a-Tub is my favorite body scrub because it smells amazing and it always leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft! The Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner is actually a cool and innovative product. This product works as a lotion (even though you have to rinse it off in the shower) that leaves the skin feeling soft without the sticky feel of an actual lotion.
Best Facial Toner
I started out 2014 by using The Body Shop’s Tea Tree line for my daily skincare routine. Towards the latter half of the year, I switched to their Seaweed line upon learning that it works better with oily skin. I particularly enjoy using the Seaweed Clarifying Toner which effectively cleans out my skin from dirt and oil.
Best Facial Moisturizer
The Too Cool For School Pumpkin Sleeping Pack is all kinds of awesome! I use it 2 to 3 times a week or whenever I feel like my skin needs some love. It always leave my skin looking fresh and healthy!
Best Face Mask
Doing a face mask every week is something that I always look forward to! In fact, I have a few face masks that I keep on rotation. But the face mask that has really been my favorite in 2014 is the Secret Nature Volcanic Ash Pore Pack. This mask is great if you have big pores like me because it provides that deep cleansing action that leaves the skin feeling clean.
Best Hair Product
I have really dry and frizzy hair that is so hard to tame. Maybe it’s from the years of having my hair rebonded which I now kind of regret. To make my hair more manageable, I have been loving the Eva NYC Mane Tamer Leave-in Cream. This product comes in a thick white cream which surprisingly does not leave any white residue on the hair. It smells good too!
Whew! What a long blog post to start off the year! But, like I said, 2014 has been such a great year beauty wise and I just can’t help but include all the products that stood out for me in 2014!
Cheers to an even more awesome 2015!
