You gotta admit, drugstore brands have been stepping up their game recently in terms of eyeshadow palettes. Brands like Maybelline and L’Oreal only previously carried duos and quads. However recently, they have been bringing out bigger palettes with nude and neutral shades being all the craze. This is an awesome thing as we now have more affordable options following the success of nude palettes coming from high-end brands like Urban Decay.
The most popular, shall I say dupes to the Urban Decay Naked palettes are the Maybelline The Nudes Palette and the L’Oreal La Palette Nude. These palettes are very similar that you don’t need both in your collection. But they are both very affordable that purchasing both would cost you lesser than buying one Urban Decay Naked palette. However, if you’re not a makeup hoarder like me and you only need one versatile palette in your stash, let me tell you which one you should get.
The Maybelline the Nudes palette has 12 neutral shades with a mix of matte and shimmers. This palette normally costs Php 600 but Maybelline always has good deals; so if you’re lucky, you can get this at a lesser price. The shadows are very soft and easy to blend. The pigmentation is great for the shimmery shades while some of the matte shades are a bit patchy. I always use a primer with my eyeshadows because of my oily eyelids so I can’t vouch for how long-wearing these shadows are. I love the variety and versatility of the shades in this palette. With this palette, you can go for a wearable eye look or a bronze-y smoky eye.
The L’Oreal La Palette Nude has fewer shades compared to the Maybelline palette. It only has 10 shades that are also a mix of matte and shimmers. This palette is a bit more expensive than the Maybelline palette at Php 800. It also comes in this cool, sleek packaging that looks like its an expensive palette. The pigmentation of these eyeshadows did not blow me away to be honest. It was a bit difficult to get a good swatch. The third color from the left in this palette looks like a good transition color but I could hardly get a good enough swatch of it. However, when applied on the eyes with a primer, the color payoff of these eyeshadows becomes better. These eyeshadows are very smooth and blendable though. Like the Maybelline palette, this one is also very versatile that I have no problem creating different eye looks with this.
Go for the Maybelline the Nudes palette!! In my honest opinion, the eyeshadows in the Maybelline palette are of better quality – they are more pigmented and very blendable. I love how you can get more shades in this palette at a lesser cost. Packaging-wise, I prefer the L’Oreal one as it is sleeker and would easily fit in my makeup bag. However, the Maybelline the Nudes palette is a better value for your money because of the quality of the eyeshadows in it!
