As you may or may not know, I’m always on the lookout for foundations that would sit well on my oily skin. I’ve come across few which have been great but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to try out more.
My recent foundation finds are the Becca Cosmetics Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation and the cult classic Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation. I have been using these two foundations alternately for these past few weeks and I’m finally ready to give my review on them.
I got the Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation from my recent Sephora Haul. As I have mentioned in that haul, I got this foundation because it was featured as one of Teni Panosian‘s top 5 best foundations. Since I was shopping online, I didn’t get to swatch any of the shades. After browsing the web for swatches of this foundation, I went for the shade Bamboo which I believe is a good color match for me.
In the picture above, I’ve applied the Becca foundation on the left side of my face while the right side of my face is bare. As you can see, the foundation has a medium to full coverage and the finish is matte. You can start out by applying a thin layer of this foundation then adding some more for a full coverage. It evened out my skin tone and blurred out some of my acne scars and dark pigmentation. In terms of staying power, I find that I do need to set this one with powder but I only need to blot any oiliness on my face after 4-5 hours. The consistency of this foundation is quite thin but it’s not watery. I find it to be very blendable with either a brush or a beauty blender. Packaging-wise, I love that it comes in a tube because that way, I can control the amount of product that can be dispensed out of the tube. All things considered, I love this foundation! I’m glad that I picked it up and I can foresee myself reaching for this one for a long time.
As you may have seen from my birthday wishlist, I’ve always wanted to get the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation. It has such a cult following and I’ve read numerous blogs saying that it is a great foundation for oily skin. I didn’t get it in time for my birthday but I finally got my hands on it a few weeks ago. I was color matched to the shade Tawny.
In the picture above, I’ve applied the Double Wear foundation on the right side of my face while the left side of my face is bare. This foundation is so full coverage right of the bat. It covers up any blemishes, blurs out acne scars and conceals dark pigmentation. The consistency of this foundation is a bit more watery compared to the Becca foundation. However, you need to work fast with this foundation as it sets really fast. You definitely get more time blending the Becca foundation compared to the Double Wear foundation. I find that using a damp beauty blender to apply this foundation is the best way to go. I tried applying it with a buffing brush but I found that it didn’t blend out the foundation as seamlessly as I wanted it to be and my makeup caked throughout the day. This foundation is more long-lasting than the Becca foundation. Although I find the need to blot at the 5 hour mark, this foundation does not transfer and the coverage stays full throughout the day. I hate the packaging of this foundation because it does not come with a pump. I find it hard to dispense the product and at times, I dispense more product than I need. It also comes in a glass bottle which is not ideal for travelling.
Both of these foundations are really great for someone with oily skin. But if I were to choose one out of the two, I will go for the Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation is great and it definitely lives up to its hype. However, I find the Becca foundation to be easier to use. I love its consistency, blendability, coverage and packaging!
