Top 5 lipstick picks for this time of year

Firstly, I’d like to apologize for the lack of posts last week and these past few days. I just renewed my blog and all is up and running again. Secondly, it’s almost Christmas and I’m really excited! Are you? This time of year is my absolute favorite season. In other countries, it would be fall already but I live in a tropical country so the temperature is pretty much the same all year round. It gets a tad bit cooler here in my side of the globe around this time of year though.

This time of year is also my favorite because I get to bust out my darker lip colors and wear them on a daily basis! I know I can basically wear them anytime of the year but it feels even more special wearing bolder colors during the holiday season. In this blog post, I’ll be breaking down my top 5 lipstick picks for this season.

The Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wearing Lipstick in Melted Velvet is a deep red which in my opinion would look great on darker skin tones. This has quite a shiny finish but it feels really comfortable on the lips. This color is perfect for those who are intimidated by a bright red color as it is very wearable.

Wet N Wild Mocha-licious is a drugstore favorite of mine as it is really affordable and the quality is just on point. Mocha-licious is a warm brown shade with a satin finish.

The Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned is a classic wine color that would suit all skin tones. It feels really smooth and this does not dry out my lips despite the matte finish.

Sleek Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Velvet Slipper is a vampy plum shade. This liquid lipstick is really pigmented and long-lasting. It tends to feel dry on the lips so I recommend applying a lip balm first. This not my favorite liquid lipstick formula but the color is just too hard to resist!
MAC Whirl is one of my favorite shades from MAC. It can actually be a dupe for Wet N Wild Mocha-licious although Whirl is a bit darker and has a matte finish.

What are your favorite lipsticks for this season? Please comment and let me know! I’d love hearing from you! Xoxo!

My Top 5 Drugstore Mascaras

I can’t believe drugstore week is coming to an end! I’ve enjoyed blogging about my favorites from the drugstore. I do love my higher end makeup but I always go back to my drugstore products and because of that, drugstore brands will always have my love!

As we bring drugstore week to a close, I’m bringing you another top 5 post about my favorite product from the drugstore of all time – MASCARA! I only ever buy drugstore brand mascaras. I’ve tried a few high-end ones before but they have not impressed me. I’m telling you people, the drugstore is where it’s at in terms of mascaras!

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara – This is a classic drugstore mascara and a great one at that! If you like you lashes to look long and full, go ahead and grab this one the next time you’re at a Maybelline counter!

Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara – I was skeptical about this mascara at first because I didn’t like it the first time I tried it. But when I gave it another shot and applied coats of this to my eyelashes, I fell in love with it! I guess the secret to having long and voluminous lashes with this mascara is to apply at least 2 coats of this on each eyelash. Don’t be afraid of applying multiple coats of this mascara on your eyelashes because it doesn’t get clumpy – it will only make your eyelashes look so long and feathery.

Maybelline Lash Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara – This one gives volume and length to your lashes for days! I love using this one because it makes it look as if I’m wearing false eyelashes. But do take note that this one is very waterproof and quite hard to take off. I suggest using an oil-based makeup remover like the Biore Cleansing Oil to take this mascara off.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Grow Lash Complex + Fibres Mascara – Like the rest of my fave mascaras, this one delivers in terms of the length and volume departments. But, the reason why I love this mascara so much is the wand or applicator. The wand is very thin that it works great at coating each of your lashes and it’s thin enough that you can use it to coat your lower lashes as well.

Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara – This is by far my holy grail mascara! I first heard of this mascara from Anna of Vivianna Does Makeup.  This mascara made Anna’s lashes look so long and full. It gives volume and length with just one sweep on your lashes. It doesn’t look natural on the lashes when applied, but if you know me, you’d know that I like that kind of look on my lashes. This one is extremely waterproof as well and it stays on all day without smudging!

What is your favorite mascara from the drugstore?

Thanks for keeping up with drugstore week! I plan to do another one in the future!

Top 5 Drugstore Foundations for Oily Skin

As drugstore week continues, I thought I would share with you my top 5 drugstore foundations for my skin type – oily skin! I believe drugstore brands are getting better at providing options when it comes to foundations. The shade range is improving and a lot of brands are bringing out foundations catering to different skin types.

Just a little disclaimer before I delve into my foundation favorites – I have really oily skin and huge pores; so the foundations mentioned in this post have to be set by powder. If you have less oily skin than me, you may find that you won’t need to set these foundations with powder. Also, I find that all of these foundations seem to last for about 4-5 hours before I need to start blotting out the oil.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation
– This is my favorite drugstore foundation!! I got mine from Priceline when I was in Sydney last year. When I tried it on my face for the first time, I immediately noticed how amazing the finish was! I know it says that it’s a matte foundation but it certainly has a bit of dewyness to it. This foundation also makes my skin look so natural as it blurs out my pores and it does not get cakey throughtout the day. This has a medium coverage but this foundation is very buildable.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation – This is a drugstore classic! I love this foundation because it blends easily into the skin and has quite a natural finish. The shade range for this foundation is so amazing that I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find the perfect shade match!

Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Fresh Complexion Oil Free Foundation – I initially didn’t have high hopes for this foundation. But I was genuinely surprised by how much I love this one! This one has a natural finish as well and has a great medium coverage. Like the name of this foundation says, it does look fresh when applied on the face. It looks very natural and does not get cakey on the face.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation – I’ve had a really good experience with Rimmel foundations. They have a great selection that is great for oily skin types. My favorite, however, is this Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation. This one is definitely full coverage which is the reason why I love this! Despite it being full coverage, it does not feel heavy on the skin. It’s very smooth and easy to blend as well!

L’Oreal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation – Another winner from L’Oreal! This foundation does not differ much from the True Match foundation. I can say that this one lasts longer on my face and it’s finish is more matte than the True Match foundation.

If you have oily skin, I hope this post helped you out in term of affordable foundation choices! What are your favorite drugstore foundations? I’d love to hear from you!

My Top 5 Under Eye Concealers

I love a good under eye concealer. My under eye area tends to get really dark because let’s be honest here, who gets the luxury of a good night, 8-hour sleep?! I typically only get less than 6 hours of sleep every night and I consider a good under eye concealer my savior! I’ve tried many under eye concealers; while some have been utter disappointments, I’ve found real gems that I highly recommend!

Bare Minerals Correcting Concealer in Medium 1 – This concealer is very smooth and easy to pat onto the under eye area. I find this to give a medium yet buildable coverage that lasts a good amount of time when set with a powder. I love that despite how creamy this is, it does not get cakey throughout the day.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser for Dark Circles in Medium – This is a classic drugstore concealer for the under eye that I love and always keep on my stash. This product is just so damn good! The formula is very thin and blendable. It has really good coverage and is quite brightening under the eye. The only thing I hate about this concealer is the packaging – the sponge that comes with it gets really grubby.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Medium – This concealer works like a dream not only on the under eye area but also on other areas of the face that need concealing. The formula on this one is a tad bit thicker than the Instant Age Rewind Eraser but is still very blendable. I like blending out this concealer with a beauty blender because I find that that gives the most natural finish. I love how it effectively it conceals and at the same time brightens the under eye area as well. I’d say that if I were to pick between the Fit Me Concealer and Instant Age Rewind Eraser, I’d pick the Fit Me Concealer for sure!

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW30 – An oldie but a goodie! I fell in love with this concealer years ago and up to this day, I always go back to this! This is such a good concealer for under the eyes and for the other areas of the face. It has a thick consistency and its coverage is really full on. It is also very long-lasting even on very oily skin! On days when I feel like my skin is looking good, I only use this concealer under my eyes and on some spots, set it with powder and I’m good to go.

Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer for Under Eye in No. 4 – Out of all the concealers in my top 5, this one has the thickest consistency. It’s so thick that I find it hard to pat onto the skin with fingers or to blend it with a brush without tugging on the under eye area so much. I apply this concealer with a damp beauty blender by gently patting it on the under eye area. The coverage for this is high – it covers even the most zombie-like under eye area! I know it says that it is an under eye concealer but I find that it also effectively covers spots and any discoloration on the face.

What is your favorite under eye concealer? Any good ones you can recommend?

Top 5 Australian Beauty Finds

In 2015, I’ve had the wonderful experience of visiting Australia and living there for 2 months! I was there during the winter time when the cold weather was a welcome change from Manila’s scorching summer heat! I stayed in Sydney and I seriously had a blast! I did a lot of sight seeing, eating and catching up with my best friend and some friends who I haven’t seen in a long time! Being the beauty-obsessed girl that I am, I definitely didn’t pass up on Australian beauty products! Some of my favorite beauty gurus on YouTube are Aussies (hey Lauren Curtis, Chloe Morello, Dani Mansutti & Crystal Conte!) so I already had a little knowledge of some Australian beauty brands.

I hoarded quite a bit of stuff while I was there. Haha! I really enjoyed browsing through Mecca Cosmetica, Sephora, Myer and Priceline! Some of the items were a bit pricey but I found some gems that I seriously fell in love with! Today, I’ll be sharing with you my top 5 Australian beauty finds! Surprisingly, all of them are from the drugstore!

The NATIO Mineral Pressed Powder Bronzer in Sunswept has been my go-to bronzer for months now! I have been using it every day since I got it to bronze up my face and I haven’t hit pan on it yet! This bronzer is pigmented with just the right amount of shimmer in it. It is also very smooth and blendable! I love how it comes in a big compact and that it has a huge mirror in it as well!

I didn’t really intend to get the Australis AC ON TOUR Contouring and Highlighting Kit. A friend of mine requested that I get one for her but when I saw this palette at Priceline, I knew that I also had to get one for myself! If my memory serves me well, this palette only costs $16 which is amazing considering that you’re getting 3 contour and 3 highlight shades that are nicely pigmented! This palette is great if you want to start practicing with contouring or if you’re already a pro! The only thing that I don’t like about this palette is that it doesn’t come with a mirror.

Since I was there during the winter time, my lips got really dry and it’s skin started peeling off. I got the Lucas Papaw Ointment for my lips because I have read about it in a blog post before. This ointment is just magic! I use it on my lips to prevent it from getting dry or chapped. Apparently, you can use this ointment for burns, cuts, wounds, insect bites and diaper rashes as well!

The Models Prefer Moisture Lust Lip Tints are awesome! They come in a variety of colors and finishes! These lippies are so smooth and easy to apply on the lips! They are very pigmented and leave a nice tint to the lips as it wears out throughout the day.

If you’ve been watching Lauren Curtis for quite some time, you’d know that the Face of Australia Translucent Loose Powder is one of her favorite products! This powder is so finely milled that it doesn’t cake throughout the day! My face doesn’t oil up as much whenever I use this powder to set my base which is amazing for someone with oily skin like me! I also like to use this powder to bake under my eyes because it makes my under eye area look bright!

If you’re going to Australia for a holiday, make sure to check out these products! If you happen to live in Australia, then you’re so lucky that these products are readily available to you!
