W7 Cosmetics – Yay or Nay?

Hello loves!

It’s a start of a brand new week! I don’t love Mondays, but then again who does? Haha. To kick off this week, I’ll be giving you the lowdown of a makeup brand that has just reached our shores and is now available at BeautyMNL.

The brand W7 Cosmetics is a London-based brand that aims to provide good quality cosmetics at affordable prices. When you look at their range of products, you’d notice that they look really similar to some high-end products. I picked out a few items to try from the brand and I have been testing them these past weeks.

The Prime Magic Face Primer claims to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines and allows the flawless application of foundation. This primer is really similar to the one from Smashbox but for a fraction of the price. I actually really like this primer! It has that silicone feel to it and it applies really smoothly on the face. It does blur out my pores and any foundation I’ve tried with this looks great. It also has incredible oil control which I love for my oily skin!

The Skin Fresh Concealer claims to hide blemishes, imperfections and dark circles under the eyes. I find this concealer to have a medium to full coverage that does not get cakey throughout the day. I love using it for my under eye area and for my blemishes as it effectively covers them up. This concealer applies smoothly and is very blendable.

The Hollywood Bronze and Glow is a deadringer for Charlotte Tilbury’s Film Star Bronze and Glow. This bronzer and highlight duo, I find, provides a subtle bronze and glow to the face. The bronzer looks subtle for my skin tone as it is a bit light for me. I make it work though by applying it over a cream bronzer. The highlight is my favorite! With my recent addiction to subtle highlights, I find that this one is just the right amout of subtle. It still provides that glow but it is not overpowering.

The Makeup & Glow Bronzing Base looks too similar to the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base. This is basically a cream bronzer. It does have a bit of shimmer in it but it is hardly detectable once it is blended out. It is quite pigmented but can be blended out for a more subtle look. I use the bronzer of the Hollywood Bronze and Glow over this to get the right balance of bronze. I bet this product would also look great as a body bronzer.

The Naughty Nine Eyeshadow Palette in Mid Summer Nights contains nine shades. I believe the brand has four variants of this palette and I got the one which I thought had the most warm colors. It looks like those MAC palettes of nine eyeshadows which MAC has brought out. The eyeshadows in this palette are nicely pigmented. I found them a bit powdery so beware of fallout. They are very blendable though and easy to work with. My only issue with this palette is that I was not able to find a good transition color among the mattes in this palette. The mattes in this palette have quite a pink or purple undertone to them. I wish that they added a nice orangey brown to this palette as a transition color.

Okay so I’m leaving the product that I don’t like last. The Kiss Proof Lipstick in the shade Cha Cha is a nice nude color. But here are my issues with this product. First, when I opened this product, the lipstick fell off. I’m not sure if I just got a bad product but the lipstick falling off from the packaging is not a good sign. Second, the formula of this lipstick is not good in my opinion. It appplies smoothly on the lips but it dries to a liquid lipstick texture that I find uncomfortable on my lips. It also emphasizes the lines on my lips which is not a good look.

Here is a makeup look I created using the products I mentioned above. I’m seriously impressed with the products (except the lipstick) as they all work well with me. I highly recommed their face products, especially the primer and concealer. I can’t wait to get my hands on their foundations so I can also test them out!

Have you guys tried this brand? How did you find it? Let me know on the comments! Xx! 😘

Top 5 lipstick picks for this time of year

Hello!

Firstly, I’d like to apologize for the lack of posts last week and these past few days. I just renewed my blog and all is up and running again. Secondly, it’s almost Christmas and I’m really excited! Are you? This time of year is my absolute favorite season. In other countries, it would be fall already but I live in a tropical country so the temperature is pretty much the same all year round. It gets a tad bit cooler here in my side of the globe around this time of year though.

This time of year is also my favorite because I get to bust out my darker lip colors and wear them on a daily basis! I know I can basically wear them anytime of the year but it feels even more special wearing bolder colors during the holiday season. In this blog post, I’ll be breaking down my top 5 lipstick picks for this season.

The Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wearing Lipstick in Melted Velvet is a deep red which in my opinion would look great on darker skin tones. This has quite a shiny finish but it feels really comfortable on the lips. This color is perfect for those who are intimidated by a bright red color as it is very wearable.

Wet N Wild Mocha-licious is a drugstore favorite of mine as it is really affordable and the quality is just on point. Mocha-licious is a warm brown shade with a satin finish.

The Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned is a classic wine color that would suit all skin tones. It feels really smooth and this does not dry out my lips despite the matte finish.

Sleek Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Velvet Slipper is a vampy plum shade. This liquid lipstick is really pigmented and long-lasting. It tends to feel dry on the lips so I recommend applying a lip balm first. This not my favorite liquid lipstick formula but the color is just too hard to resist!
MAC Whirl is one of my favorite shades from MAC. It can actually be a dupe for Wet N Wild Mocha-licious although Whirl is a bit darker and has a matte finish.

What are your favorite lipsticks for this season? Please comment and let me know! I’d love hearing from you! Xoxo!

Highlighter recommendations for those intimidated by the full-on glow!

Hello Loves!

Highlighters are so in right now that almost all makeup brands come out with their own version of highlighters. Admittedly, I was initially intimidated by the “glow”. Having oily skin, I didn’t think that my face would need more shine. Haha. But when I tried Jaclyn Hill and Becca’s iconic collaboration called Champagne Pop, I was immediately converted into this phenomenon!

Champagne Pop is definitely more out there in terms of the glow. I had to practice how to apply that highlight without making my face look like a grease ball. As my addiction to highlighters continues to grow, I’ve stumbled upon a few great product options for those who want to highlight but only with a subtle glow.

My first recommendation is the E.L.F. Illuminating Palette. It comes with 4 highlight shades of different tones that would match any skintone. If you’re a highlight newbie, I recommend getting this palette because not only is it affordable but it also comes with different shades that would let you play around and discover the best highlight shade for you. The shades are not as pigmented as say a Becca highlight. But the shades still give that subtle yet noticeable glow when applied on the face.

I also love the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in Be My Highlight. I discovered this one through Kathleenlights. It’s reminiscent of Champagne Pop but this one is definitely more subtle. Being that this is from Essence, it’s very affordable. It’s not as pigmented as Champagne Pop but it gives such a beautiful glow when applied to the high points of the face.

The first four swatches are of the shades in the E.L.F. Illuminating Palette and the last swatch is of the Essence highlight. As you can see, they are not that pigmented and are quite powdery. But I swear that these highlights are gorgeous when applied to the face!

Any highlighter recommendations? Xoxo!

The L’Oreal Micellar Water – a new skincare staple!

Hello Loves!

How was your Halloween? I hope you had a blast! We don’t really celebrate Halloween in the Philippines and we don’t go trick or treating. But some do get dressed up and go to Halloween parties.

Since we’re talking of Halloween, I’m sure lots of you did some heavy makeup to go with your costumes. With the heavy makeup comes the dreaded task of taking it all off! May it be for Halloween or your normal day-to-day makeup, worry not because I have a great product recommendation that effectively removes makeup – the L’Oreal Micellar Water.

There’s a lot of micellar waters coming out on the market nowadays but out of all the ones I’ve tried, this one from L’Oreal truly stands out. The price point is great (Php 225 or around $5) and it’s the most affordable micellar water I’ve ever tried. It also delivers on its claim of effectively cleansing the face and removing makeup. And yes, it effectively removes even waterproof makeup! Seems like a heavy duty makeup remover and cleanser all rolled into one, right? But the best thing about this micellar water is that it does not irritate the skin and most especially the eyes. I’ve tried other micellar waters which irritated the hell out of my eyes! But this one from L’Oreal does not!

I use this product everyday to remove my makeup before going through my normal nightly skincare routine. But on those days when I get home late and I couldn’t be bothered to wash my face, I use this product to take off my makeup and then I use it to cleanse my face the second time around to effectively remove all the gunk from my face.

This product has truly become a new skincare staple for me and I see myself using this for a long time! Xoxo! 😘

My favorite nail polish!!

Hello Loves!

It’s the start of a brand new week and it’s supposed to be a long weekend holiday but I have to work. This is such a bummer! Why do holidays always fall on important workdays? Anyway, there’s not much that I could do about it. Good thing I’m looking forward to taking some time off pretty soon.

Today’s blog post will be a quick one as I would like to briefly ramble on about my favorite nail polishes by the brand Sally Hansen. Well, I like a particular line of nail polishes from the brand. It’s called the Miracle Gel line.

This line of nail polishes boasts its long-wearing formula that lasts up to 14 days! I got my first bottle of the Miracle Gel nail polish last year and it has become my holy grail nail polish! Since then, I’ve gotten a few more to add to my collection and I now have 6 of these nail polishes.

They seriously last long on my nails without chipping. It amazes me that even after a week, the nail color still looks as shiny and brand new. Unlike gel nails which need a special nail polish remover to take it off, you can take off these Miracle Gel nail polishes with just about any nail polish remover.

The colors that I currently have in my collection are Mintage (mint green), Birthday Suit (nude), All Chalked Up (light lavander), Games of Chromes (gold), Mignight Mod (navy blue), and Flushed Wanderer (pastel pink). I really want to add more to my collection as I swear that these are the only nail polishes I use these days! I even gave my sister a hint that I’d love to receive a bottle of this nail polish for Christmas!

Have you tried the Miracle Gel nail polish by Sally Hansen? How did you like it? Any color recommendations?

Xoxo!

Current blush fave – Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine

Hello Loves!

A brand new week dawns upon us! Time flies so fast that I can’t believe we’re reaching the end of October! Christmas is definitely just around the corner!

This time of year reminds me of certain colors – earth tones, deep plum or wine colors and beautiful mauves. During this time of year, I go for those shades when it comes to lipsticks and blushes. My blush pick for this season is Wet N Wild’s Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine.

This blush is part of Wet N Wild’s reformulated blush range. It’s a matte deep mauve color that has amazing pigmentation and is long-wearing.

You seriously need to be careful when working with this blush as it is incredibly pigmented that your brush would pick up a lot of product. However, if applied with a light hand, you can get a beautiful color on the cheeks.

This blush is very blendable and applies smoothly. I find it to be very long-lasting even on my oily skin. All things considered, I seriously love this blush! I’m impressed with the reformulated blushes that Wet N Wild came out with and I can’t wait to try other colors!

Xoxo!

Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder – Yay or Nay?

Hello Loves!

Happy Friday! It’s actually an off day for me today! Yay! So happy that I got to sleep in today; well not just sleep in because I woke up past noon! But I’m just so happy that I got too much sleep! My skin definitely needed that much needed beauty sleep!

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder. Patrickstarrr uses it in all of his tutorials which is where I first saw this product. With the baking trend, loose powders have really become a makeup staple. I’ve been loving the Face of Australia Loose Translucent Powder since I got it in Sydney last year. That product for me has reached holy grail status in my opinion. However this loose powder by Coty is so affordable and is much more accessible that’s why I decided to try it out.

First off, this product smells really weird. I wanted to get that out of the way in case you are sensitive when it comes to your cosmetics smelling weird. It smells like old-school makeup; like something your grandma probably used back in the day. The good thing though is that you don’t get to smell its weird scent once it’s already in your face.

The powder itself is quite heavy and is not as finely milled as I expected. With that said, if you have a lot of lines around your eyes and on your face, I wouldn’t recommend this for baking as it would get cakey.

If you have oily skin, I highly recommend this product as it controls oil really well. I like using this powder to set my foundation and concealer as it gives a nice, flawless finish. I love that this powder does not have a lot of pigment to it because that way it does not change the tone of my foundation and concealer.

I highly recommend this loose powder! That is if you don’t mind its strong scent and the fact that the powder is not that finely milled.

Enjoy your weekend! Xoxo!
